How-To: Analyze Files with ChatGPT

How to Analyze PDF or DOC Files with ChatGPT

  1. Use ChatGPT’s File Upload Feature
    For this action simply:

    • Open the ChatGPT app on your phone or browser (Download if you don’t have it)

    • Click on the + icon then from the options, select files.

    • Upload the PDF or DOC file.

  2. Extract Key Insights
Once the text is in ChatGPT, you can:

    • Ask for summaries (e.g., "Summarize this report in bullet points.")

    • Extract key themes (e.g., "What are the main arguments in this document?")

Find specific details (e.g., "Pull out all dates and numbers mentioned in this text.")

  3. Perform Sentiment or Tone Analysis
If analyzing business reports, legal documents, or customer feedback, ChatGPT can:

    • Detect sentiment (e.g., "Does this document sound positive, neutral, or negative?")

Identify bias or tone (e.g., "Does this article favor a particular viewpoint?")

  4. Summarize, Translate, or Rewrite Content
    You can ask ChatGPT to:

    • Convert complex legal/technical docs into simple summaries.

    • Translate content into another language.

    • Reformat documents for different audiences (e.g., a formal report into an easy-to-read blog post).

  5. Ask Specific Questions on the Document
Instead of reading the whole file, you can ask:

    • "What is the conclusion of this document?"

    • "Does this file mention XYZ?"

    • "Are there any action points in this report?"

Quick Tech Tips

Here are three quick tech tips for you this week:

  • Tip 1: Use Voice Typing for Faster Notes
Need to take notes quickly? Use voice typing! On Google Docs, press Ctrl + Shift + S (or go to Tools > Voice Typing) to dictate your text instead of typing.

  • Tip 2: Search Smarter on Google
Use quotation marks (“ ”) around a phrase to find exact matches. For example, searching “best free project management tools” will show results containing that exact phrase instead of scattered keywords.

  • Tip 3: Turn Your Phone into a Scanner
No scanner? No problem! Use apps like Microsoft Lens, Google Drive, or CamScanner to scan documents with your phone’s camera and save them as PDFs in seconds.
